George Steiner passed away

George Steiner passed away

Dear readers, on Monday, February 3rd, George Steiner, a French-American literary critic, essayist, philosopher and novelist passed away at the age of ninety.

TIM press published two of his books, My unwritten books from 2011 and In Bluebeard's Castle. Some Notes Towards the Redefinition of Culture from 2018.

Steiner's opus contains more than twenty books, characterized by lucid elegance, rhetorical playfulness of the essay, the strict structure of the treatise and the decisiveness of manifestos. In his works he focuses on the issue of language, literature, philosophy and religion, music and painting, transforming his opus into a meta-plan of a reconstruction of metaphysical traces of our culture.

Steiner will be remembered as an author who both dazzled and dismayed his readers with the range and occasional obscurity of his literary reference and who, leaving us with his impressive opus, has left a monument of canonical significance.
