The diverse writings of Hrvoje Jurić, which were created between 2015 and 2023, could be described as „poetic essays“, although sometimes what seems like an essay is meant to be a poem, and what looks like a poem is actually an essay, a travelogue or even reportage. They are united by the fact that they talk about the smallest, and even smaller: from those unfortunates whom we are used to calling migrants, who are the smallest brothers and sisters of today's humanity, through non-human brothers and sisters, whom we call animals, separating them thus an impenetrable wall from ourselves, although we humans are also animals, to even smaller beings, things and phenomena, finally the invisible ones, among which there are also those whose existence cannot be asserted with certainty.

The problem of migration: social fissures and political upheavals that occur due to the epochal and epic migration of peoples. The problem of migration: also, a challenge to the humanity of the members of the domicile population who are suddenly and on a large scale confronted with the different and the Other, which at first is always perceived as unknown and threatening. The problem of migration: first of all, the fate of the unfortunate people who come to the Balkans from the Middle East, the Indian subcontinent and Africa over long distances in order not to continue to Western Europe, the „Middle West“, but get stuck here with their problem, which inevitably becomes ours.

education is wrong. if they had only told me that everything living and non-living is made up of countless invisible elements, and that we can investigate it in different ways, but that we will never know everything about it – I would know much more about the world, and the world would be much closer to me. This is how I have been struggling with the periodic table of elements, and with logarithmic tables, calendars, catechisms, spellings – and I have been unsuccessfully assembling a world that exists outside of me, and without me, and is one – and sometimes I think, but never I believe that knowledge is the wealth of the free, not the discipline of the poor.
