Slobodan Šnajder at the Frankfurt Bookfair
Croatia will present its literary and publishing scene at the Frankfurt Book Fair under the slogan „Less is More“. On Friday, 18 October, as part of the discussion on identity issues in Croatian literature, Croatian writers Slobodan Šnajder and Kristian Novak will be presented, their discussion with the Austrian writer Norbert Gstrein will be moderated by Jelena Spreicer.
Central issues of identity have been raised for so-called „small literatures“ since the second half of the 19th century, and their mission does not end where their national or political consciousness is affirmed by political structures. Such questions also involve exploring other languages and cultures and pose the question of belonging. It is this complex of topics that pre-empts the study of Croatian literature in relation to German, as both literatures have been characterized by a critical examination of self-perception in the last ten years.
