Erika Fatland for Večernji: “The peoples and cultures most removed from Russian are in fact the Central Asian ones”
On the occasion of the first Croatian edition of her Sovietistan, Erika Fatland gave Branimir Pofuk an interview for Obzor and Večernji list. Speaking about her experience of Russia and the former Soviet Union during her visit to the Caucasus, Fatland highlighted:
“There, on the field, I already experienced and realized the fact that Russia isn’t just made up of Russian, just like the former Soviet Union wasn’t, but is made up of so many different peoples and cultures. And the peoples and cultures most removed from Russian culture are in fact the Central Asian ones. They went through massive social experiments in the Soviet Union and I was interested in what remained of that after the dissolution.”
