Slavica Jakelić

Slavica Jakelić is a professor of religious studies and social theory at the Honors College at Valparaiso University in Indiana, USA. She graduated in sociology at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Zagreb, and a master's degree in theological studies and a doctorate in the sociology of religion at Boston University. She taught at undergraduate and postgraduate courses at a number of American universities, was a guest lecturer at the universities of Ljubljana, Graz and the Open School in Belgrade, and trained at research institutes in the USA and Europe. She participated in numerous international scientific meetings and gave a series of lectures in the USA, Slovenia, Serbia, Italy, Great Britain, Canada and Croatia. She has published articles in leading international scientific journals and academic forums and edited proceedings and journals, including the book The Future of the Study of Religion (2004) and special issues of The Hedgehog Review „After Secularization“ (2006) and Religions „Nationalisms and Religious Identities“. She is the author of the books Collectivistic Religions (2010/2016) and Pluralizing Humanism (announced for 2025). Both freedom and belonging. Essays on religion, nationalism and solidarity is the author's first book published in Croatian.
