The Radicalization is the work of a prominent French sociologist Farhad Khosrokhavara, author of Iranian origin who shaped his socio-philosophical education and the entire scientific career at the prestigious French scientific and academic institutions, primarily under the supervision of the great sociologist Alain Touraine.

Khosrokhavar sees radicalization as one of the main features of contemporary social movements, with all their cultural, ideological, religious and other differences. Following this line he establishes and explains a series of basic questions: Who, how and why is radicalized? What role is played by ideology, political context, social situation and religion when it comes to individuals involved in the processes that lead to attitudes and behavior marked by endless violence, a certain total war against society?

Numerous Khosrokhavar’s works, created in the context of these issues, are dedicated to the interpretation of radical Islam and the problem of jihadist radicalization in Europe. It is acknowledged that he has developed an extremely educational sociology of violence. This book is undoubtedly very representative of all his research and theoretical explanations of radicalization in general, but also of radicalization in its jihadist character, and in this respect it is a highly relevant contribution to the necessary knowledge about this frightening phenomenon.

Farhad Khosrokhavar (Tehran, 1948) spent the eighties teaching at the University of Bu-Ali Hamadan (Iran), and now, in his capacity as leader of the study, he teaches at the prestigious EHESS (Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales - School of Superior Studies in Social Sciences ), in Paris. He has published several notable works, such as: New Martyrs of Allah (2002); Islam in prisons (2004); Being twenty in the country of Ayatollah (2009); The new Arab revolution in 2012 shocked the world (2012).

This is an author who is usually said to be, due to its Iranian and francophone cultural component, extremely qualified for comparative sociological considerations and in particular to the problems of the Islamic world. He, just like Touraine, and using his sociological paradigm, deals with the study of social movements, so it is quite understandable that he deals with the issue of radicalization as a phenomenon that characterizes some of today's social movements.
